Does anesthesia cause amnesia after you leave the hospital?

I'm having surgery tomorrow and I heard that one of the medications they give you during the anesthesia is to give you amnesia. Help! Is this true? I need to be able to take care of the household and family and I am looking for a job. I need my memory. Am I not understanding something?

Please help explain if you know about anesthesia / amnesia. Thank you!Does anesthesia cause amnesia after you leave the hospital?
NO they don't give you something on purpose to give you amnesia. its just a side affect of the anesthesia

and it doesn't wipe out your whole memory. if you do experience amnesia its limited to forgetting what happened between the time you went into the operated room to the time that you are fully awake again.

some people forget getting the anesthesia and what it felt like and don't remember nurses waking them up in the recovery room.

personally i don't have amnesia when i have surgery. i remember everything clearly. (which in my case is not a good thing cuz anesthesia makes me feel ill)

and after your surgery you will need to take it easy for a couple days so don't think you are going to go for an interview or take your kids to the park the same day as your surgery.Does anesthesia cause amnesia after you leave the hospital?
The amnesia that is referred to is generally for the time period associated with the procedure.Does anesthesia cause amnesia after you leave the hospital?
After my surgery I was groggy for a lil while but once the drugs wore off I had no amnesia whatsoever.... I never heard of that one before. Your memory should be totally fine.
