Is there a severe case of amnesia where you are stricken with illiteracy?

I have to write this short story where someone suffers a violent blow to the head and becomes amnesic. But the victim's case is so severe that they wake up not being able to read or write or even speak. The person actually wakes up a bit primitive and instinctual.

Can anyone provide any information for something like this, if there is such a thing?

Thank you.Is there a severe case of amnesia where you are stricken with illiteracy?
Actually, this is quite possible. When a person takes a blow to the head, they develop a neurological head injury. The brain is the thing that makes us read, write and speak. When a person has a stroke fore example, they can lose the ability to do all of the things you mentioned because the flow of blood to the brain is cut off. So when someone becomes a victim of amnesia, they can forget certain skills as well. Their brain is what has contributed to their condition in most cases. There are cases of amnesia where it is psychological and not neurologica but not in most cases. Hope this helps. If not, feel free to email me.
